How our Nepalese Lokta Paper String is made
The photos show lokta paper twine or string being made from a sheet of handmade lokta tissue paper. The lokta tissue paper is first cut into strips about 2.5 cm (1 inch) wide. The lokta tissue strips are then joined end to end to make a very long piece of tissue paper strip and the tissue paper strip is hand-twisted on a hand-powered spinning wheel to form the lokta string. The lokta string is finished by being wound into balls containing 50 metres of lokta string on a ball-winder before being wrapped for sale.
